Buying Tips for a Queen Size Air Mattress

A queen size air mattress is one of the more popular air mattresses out there and both the Coleman air mattress and the Intex air bed have the option of coming in a queen size air mattress. They aren't as big as a king so they fit into many 4-6 man tents pretty easily.

They are bigger than a twin or double, so couples find them to be much more comfortable to sleep on when camping than trying to keep two twin mattresses together, or trying to fit on one double sized mattress.

They come in a many different styles, from single thickness, as well as double thicknesses, which are really about as high as a regular mattress and box spring sitting on the floor. They can even have a comfortable topper, which is usually made from some sort of soft suede like material.

Just like buying other types and styles, there are tips for buying a queen size air mattress. The first thing to really consider is where you are going to use your mattress. If you are using it at home for guests, then a single thickness mattress will be cheaper in the long run, since it is used on the floor. If you are considering one for camping purposes then a double thickness mattress may be a better idea. While a little more expensive, they can provide much more comfort and are easier to get out of in the morning.

The next thing you need to consider when buying a queen size air mattress is the materials and the durability. You need to find a mattress that is made from thick PVC plastic, or heavy duty vinyl, and how the seams are put together is probably more important than the material the mattress is made from. They need to have heat welded seams, not glued, as this is where the mattress itself is the weakest. You need to check the box, or the fine print to make sure the seams are welded together.

Because of their larger size a queen size air mattress should also include an air mattress pump of some kind, whether it is a manually operated foot pump, or battery powered electric one. These days, the pump is usually included with many mattress brands and if you find one that doesn't include a air bed pump, you should rather pass on it for one that does.

Having to buy a pump separately can be anywhere from ten to twenty dollars extra; where as having one included with the mattress is only a few dollars more. Your air mattress should also have two openings; a small one way valve opening for filling it and a larger valve opening for deflation.

The next area that you really have to consider is price. Because prices have come down so much in the last few decades, you shouldn't have to spend more than fifty to one hundred dollars for a queen. The only thing that is going to make this size a little more expensive is how many chambers thick the mattress you buy is. For single thicknesses, you shouldn't have to spend more than $50, a dual chamber around $100.

Anything more than that and you are paying for the brand name. While there are some local dealers, buying online gives you more choices for selection and price. Some places to look online for a quality queen size air mattress is Amazon and NexTag.
